I personally have made a hiring decision between two candidates, because one candidate wrote a genuine thank you note and followed up and the other didn't.

 

It is often the little things that are the big things.

 

Always ask for a business card for those who are itnerviewing you.  This way you will spell the person's name correctly.  Then instead of an email, take the time to hand write a personal thank you.
