Brené Brown on Empathy

What is the best way to ease someone's pain and suffering? In this beautifully animated RSA Short, Dr Brené Brown reminds us that we can only create
Andrew Gerkens's insight:

Empathy vs. sympathy

Empathy is feeling with people; a choice to:

- take the perspective of another/recognise it as their truth,

- stay out of judgment,

- recognise emotion in others and communicate that.

It isn't trying to put on a silver lining or provide a solution.

'Rarely can a response make something better. What makes something better is connection'.

Andrew Gerkens's insight:

This article by Andrew Brown explores an adaptive response to issues raised by the Australian Royal Commission into
Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. It is a great exploration of culture and opportunities to build capacity.

“When we experience the world as too complex... there are only two ways to mend this mismatch – reduce the world’s complexity or increase our own.” – Robert Kegan
