An American artist will be arriving in Luxembourg this month to take part in an emerging artist-in-residence programme at Bourglinster Castle.
Chris Maddox from Madison, Wisconsin, was selected by the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) for the programme, which is offered by MOWA exclusively to Wisconsin artists.
The mixed-media artist's work has previously been acquired by museums and private collectors in the US, Italy and Japan.
His current work focuses on book art projects and installation work.
MOWA executive director and chief executive Laurie Winters said Maddox "stood out as a rising star".
She added: "I know he will be inspired by the Luxembourg culture and community of artists to both grow and create while aboard."

Heritage Days open up a number of heritage gems that are often not open to the general public, from 22 September to 8 October 2017. This year's edition, focusing on houses and people ('Haiser a Leit') not only tells the stories of the Grand Duchy's built heritage. It is more about the people that built them, shaping them and steeping them in their stories - and even their legends.
Heritage Days are known for allowing people to visit places that are not normally open to the public. So they provide a great opportunity for visiting some of the emblematic places of the Grand Duchy's built heritage and hearing the stories behind them.
For the 2017 edition, however, the National Sites and Monuments Service (Service des sites et monuments nationaux) has decided to let the people connected with these buildings speak for themselves. Relations between human determination and constructed substance, between characters and stones, between personal destinies and the destiny of the buildings: it is these links that the 2017 Heritage Days aim to bring out, offering themed guided tours and conferences to help the public (re-)discover a number of sites.
Places that are normally inaccessible, with stories that are little-known
So the programme includes not only buildings to be discovered, but also a number of destinies and stories. For example, how can you tell the story of the fortifications of the City of Luxembourg without mentioning Count Wenceslas or the French engineer Vauban? Or the story of Beaufort castle without referring to its first owner, Baron Jean of Beck, or its last, Anne-Marie Linckels?
The programme includes exhibitions, conferences, workshops and guided tours (registration required). For information on dates and times, download the full programme.

Die „Nuit des Musées“ hat Tradition und ist mittlerweile zu einem festen jährlichen Rendezvous für alle Kunst- und Kulturbegeisterte geworden. Nicht weniger als 17.000 Besucher waren bei der letzten Auflage in den sieben hauptstädtischen Museen unterwegs. Die 17. Museumsnacht, die am kommenden 14. Oktober zwischen 18.00 und 1.00 über die Bühne geht, wird zweifelsohne einen ähnlichen Erfolg kennen.
Das Programm ist wiederum abwechslungsreich und hält sogar eine Neuheit bereitet.
„Luxemburg zählt mit zu den Pionieren dieser Initiative“, bemerkte Kulturstaatssekretär Guy Arendt gestern während der Programmvorstellung im „Musée National d’Histoire et d’Art“ (MNHA).
„Durch die Aktivität der Museen, ihre Auseinandersetzung mit unserer Heimat und unserer Vergangenheit oder mit der Kunst in all ihren Facetten werden Werte vermittelt und die kulturelle Bildung unterstützt.
Ein Museum soll unsere Gesellschaft nicht nur reproduzieren, sondern auch aktiv mit formen“, meinte Arendt. Die Museumsnacht sei nicht nur von Wichtigkeit, um den Reichtum und die Vielfältigkeit des Luxemburger Kulturguts zu zeigen, sondern auch um ein neues Publikum zu sensibilisieren und für Kultur zu begeistern.
